Tim McGraw Interviewed on “Larry King Now”

At the Venetian Hotel, Tim McGraw opens up to Larry King on his new show, Larry King Now, about his dad and stepfather, playing Coach Gary Gaines on Friday Night Lights, he and Faith Hill’s Vegas show and more.

Regarding their Vegas concerts at the Venetian, Tim says he loves working with Faith. “Not only is she just stunning to look at—she’s a beautiful person,” he says, “but her voice, she’s got such a depth of soul in the way that she sings that’s just captivating.”

Tim also discussed finding out about his biological father, famed major league pitcher Tug McGraw.

“I didn’t know he was my dad. My name was ‘Smith,’” Tim explained to Larry, saying that he didn’t meet Tug until he was 11. “On my birth certificate ‘McGraw’ was scratched out and ‘Smith’ was written in by hand.”

But Tim did get to watch his dad pitch before he retired. “I got to see him pitch. I got to see him give up a grand slam!” he recalled with a laugh. The two grew close later in life, before Tug passed in 2004.
