Get to Know the PawnShop kings, Part 2 of 3

Scott and Joel Owen visit the family farm outside Memphis.

In this installment of the PawnShop kings’ travels, brothers Scott and Joel Owen go back through Dallas, where they were born, and the Memphis-area farm where they spent time as children.

“We’ve been talking about doing that for a long time,” says Joel. “It was really special, especially with these songs. Some of these songs we’ve had for a while and they really come out of these places. These songs represent our roots.”

The brothers also visit an abandoned church on that property, previously used by workers who lived on the farm. They write and sing songs while the tune “When You Hold Me” from their PSk EP plays. “It felt so deep, it felt so rich, to be able to have that stuff,’ says Joel, “and to be able to look back and see those things with the soundtrack of music that comes out of those places. That was pretty powerful.”
