Brad Paisley hosts cookout for contest winner
Roll that beautiful bean footage!" laughs Brad.
"Hey, you stole my line!" says Bush's beans founder Jay Bush, who made those words famous in popular TV commercials featuring his "talking" dog, Duke.
Jay doesn't mind if Brad borrows his catchphrase. After all, Brad is part of the bean team now. Jay asked the star to pick the winner of Bush's Country Style Cookout Contest -- which sought to find America's biggest country music fan.
"We asked Brad to judge the contest because he's real," says Bush. "Like Bush's beans and country music."
"People sent in letters saying why they're country's biggest fan," explains Brad. "There were over 12,000 of them!" Contest officials whittled the entries down to five finalists and Brad picked his favorite.
The winner -- 27-year-old Christine Lucas, an occupational therapist from Cheshire, Conn. -- took the top prize with her entry:
I love country music, where do I start?
Maybe with a little twang that's really moved my heart
To hear some great country music, Nashville is the key
Fan Fair is the place to be! Dancing, singing and eating, too
Brad Paisley and Bush's make my dream come true!
Christine's prize package included a trip for four to Fan Fair, tickets to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and $500 cash. But for Christine, the most exciting part is a picnic with Brad Paisley.
"He's so cute!" gushes Christine, who brought along her sister Linda and parents Jean and Fred. "When I saw he was part of the prize, that's when I entered the contest!"
At Edwin Warner Park, Brad and Christine enjoy a variety of mouthwatering picnic fare from grilled burgers, hot dogs and wild rice to potato salad, fruit and several varieties of Bush's Baked Beans.
"These are the best!" grins Brad.
Christine and Brad declare that Bush's beans can be found in their cupboards. But Brad, who spends a lot of time on the road, has a confession to make:
"We don't allow them on the bus," he says. "You understand."
