Uncaged by Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown Band’s first two major-label album releases, The Foundation and You Get What You Give, quickly established not only the group’s unique country/Southern rock/bluegrass/jam-band style, but also it’s musical integrity. Zac and company’s third collection, Uncaged, does nothing to tarnish their sterling image and even manages to expand it a bit.

First single “The Wind” is a rollicking number that catches one’s attention from the opening nimble plucks of Zac’s guitar and never lets go despite the frantic pace. “Island Song” takes Zac Brown fans where they want to go, to the Caribbean, with an infectious island beat.

“Sweet Annie” is a tender love song replete with passionate and tight harmonies, while “Overnight,” featuring jazz and funk musician Trombone Shorty, finds Zac channeling his inner R&B crooner. First I’m gonna search your body over / I gotta make sure you ain’t hiding nothing nowhere, Zac sings seductively and convincingly.

Yes, Zac is the group’s frontman, but time and again the songwriting, musicianship and harmonies on Uncaged demonstrate why the Zac Brown Band is more than a one-man operation—the sum is greater than any of its individual parts.
