The dreamily gorgeous music Ohio couple Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler have been making together for over a decade and a half was summed up on a best-of album, Discount Fireworks, earlier this year. So it’s a good time for a fresh start, which the duo makes on The Trumpet Child by reaching back to the roots of American country and jazz for inspiration. The wry “If a Song Could Be President” playfully imagines Emmylou Harris as a U.S. ambassador and John Prine as head of the FBI; let’s save a spot in the cabinet for Over the Rhine.
