TransAmerica: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Transsexuality doesn't automatically snap to mind when one thinks of country music. But the mostly country and bluegrass soundtrack to the critically hailed film about a man becoming a woman is a natural fit, whether thanks to the tone of restlessness in songs like Dolly Parton's Oscar-nominated "Travelin' Thru," or the emotional honesty of tracks from Lucinda Williams and Heather Myles. The only hitch is Miriam Makeba's Afropop "Jol'Inkomo," a mood-killer on a collection that should otherwise satisfy men, women and anyone in between.
