They Call Me Cadillac

Much like a classic Cadillac, Randy’s new album has a sleek, traditional quality that doesn’t go out of style. But make no mistake, underneath the smooth crooning is some major musical horsepower. The strong influence of Waylon Jennings is felt throughout the disc, from the down-on-your-luck “Lowdown and Lonesome” to the Southern pride of “Out Here in the Country.” Lee Ann Womack graces the somber track “Addicted.” The disc boasts an abundance of party tunes like “Whistlin’ Dixie” and “Man Like Me,” while Randy’s voice is reminiscent of Ronnie Dunn’s on the despondent “Will I Always Be This Way.” The first single, “I’m All About It,” suffers from too many country clichés, but the strength of the wistful ballad “Here With Me” makes up for it. The scorching blues of “Somewhere South of Memphis” blends well with the classic country sound of “If I Could Buy Me Some Time.” The set is capped with a timeless-sounding gospel-soul track, “Lead Me Home.”
