Then Sings My Soul: 24 Favorite Hymns & Gospel Songs

The care that Ronnie Milsap clearly put into the selections on this two-disc set suggests a deep and abiding familiarity with these songs and their sentiments. He daringly reimagines the soul classic “Stand By Me” and his own 1978 chart-topper “What a Difference You’ve Made in My Life” as spiritual numbers, and the closing arrangement of “The Lord’s Prayer” brings out the inherent musicality in those familiar words. Sometimes studio polish keeps Then Sings My Soul from connecting emotionally like it might, but Ronnie’s sincerity and soulfulness are never in doubt.
