Stronger by Sara Evans

Songstress Sara Evans has returned for her first studio album since 2005’s Real Fine Place.

The turmoils and triumphs of her personal life during the past few years are no secret, and accordingly, she aces the love-lost tales “A Little Bit Stronger” and “Life Without Losing.”

Smooth and soulful on “My Heart Can’t Tell You No,” bold and confident on “Wildfire,” Sara proves on her latest that she remains a fine interpreter in the vein of Trisha Yearwood and Patty Loveless.

Sara co-penned the album’s standout ballad, “What That Drink Cost Me,” a song deserving of radio single status. While the breezy “Anywhere” suffers from a few lyrical clichés, it harkens back to her sunny country hit “A Real Fine Place to Start,” as does the sassy “Ticket to Ride,” which would reside comfortably on one of Reba’s more recent albums.

Winding down with a bluegrass version of “Born to Fly,” Sara’s pop-country sound is rich Southern comfort, delivered organically and with authenticity.
