Steel Magnolia EP

The duo’s five-song EP offers a taste of what fans of CMT’s Can You Duet loved about these winners. The energetic interplay, soulful vocals and edgy style of Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones will inevitably draw comparisons to Lady Antebellum on the passionate “Edge of Goodbye.” “Keep On Lovin’ You,” co-written by The SteelDrivers’ Chris Stapleton, showcases Meghan’s substantial vocal range. Her vocal intensity can occasionally be overbearing, though “Ooh La La” finds her voice effortlessly reaching Tina Turner-like depths of grittiness. The EP also reprises two live tracks from their Duet days; a cover of Tim and Faith’s “I Need You” has a looser, darker sound than the original and features a restrained and sultry vocal from Joshua. Their take on Dwight Yoakam’s “Fast as You” doesn’t come off as effortlessly as other tracks here. The vocal ability and chemistry here is undeniable, and will leave fans longing for a full album from this dynamic duo.
