“Southern Comfort Zone” by Brad Paisley
Brad Paisley has a definite knack for bringing his songs to life through videos, never getting too artsy or ethereal, but leaning more to literal interpretations with clever touches.
With “Southern Comfort Zone” he took it up a notch. Brad visited eight countries in eight days, which explains why he’s in a dead run throughout most of the piece. However, unless you’re very well traveled in the countries he’s visiting, you may not realize it. With the exception of a few historical landmarks—Rome’s Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the plains of Africa, where Brad donated a cow to the Masai village—the remaining landscape could be any ethnic area of any metropolitan city.
But maybe that’s the point. Obviously everyone can’t apply for a passport and blow their retirement to “see the world,” to get outside their comfort zone—Southern, Northern or otherwise. But it’s the going away that makes the coming home so much better . . . whether away is Tanzania or Tuscaloosa.
Look for a nice cameo from former tourmates The Band Perry, who fit beautifully into a European landscape. But it’s a Masai giraffe who steals the show.
