Soundstage

Kenny Chesney’s concerts have become events, mammoth all-day stadium spectacles that sometimes seem to be more about the party than the artist. That’s why it’s interesting to see Kenny forced to scale things down somewhat for this relatively intimate set on the superlative PBS music series Soundstage. The format by design puts the emphasis squarely on Kenny’s songs (for better and worse), even if he still plays ’em to the cheap seats. (Premieres on PBS Aug. 7; check local listings for date and time.)
