Slide On Over Here

Some artists lose a record deal and find themselves. Steve Azar’s 2002 major-label debut, Waitin’ on Joe, was just fine—but it was 2008’s indie follow-up, Indianola, that revealed him as a force to be reckoned with. Slide On Over Here is a pitch-perfect progression, retaining some of the previous album’s native Mississippi flavor while expanding its musical scope. The first single, “Moo La Moo,” takes lighthearted stock of the lousy economy, but most of Slide is more timeless than timely—if Indianola was about rediscovering roots, this is about moving forward with what you’ve discovered. As you’ll hear on Slide On Over Here, Steve Azar has done just that.
