Rise & Shine

For its latest album, Fanny Grace—singer Carmen Mejia and guitarist (and principal songwriter) Paul Reeves—teamed with producer John Carter Cash, recorded at the Cash Cabin Studio and chose to cover Johnny Cash’s “My Cowboy’s Last Ride.” Yet despite being steeped in an atmosphere of, well, Cashness, Fanny Grace still sounds very much like itself—albeit with an extra layer of warmth and a sense of country history that takes in everything from the Carter Family’s “The Storms Are on the Ocean” to Paul and Carmen’s own appealing originals. Rise shines.
