Ready for the Flood

The sweet harmonies, contoured melodies and rustic guitars of Minnesota band The Jayhawks were out of place in an early-1990s rock scene dominated by grunge bands like Nirvana, but proved profoundly influential on the emerging genre that would eventually call itself “Americana.” So it’s an opportune time for original Jayhawks leaders Mark Olson and Gary Louris to reteam for their first set of original songs together in more than a decade. Thankfully, the songwriting chops, easy chemistry and soulful vocals the twosome brought to their old outfit are still in full flower on the lovely Ready for the Flood.
