Following the turbulence of the late 1960s, a generation of rockers turned to country music for its soothing and comforting qualities. Among the most important pioneers of the country-rock movement was Stephen Stills, the multitalented singer and songwriter best known as part of Crosby, Stills and Nash. Manassas partnered him with former Byrds member Chris Hillman, and the short-lived band’s slim output continues to be cherished by fans. Pieces gathers the scattered studio remnants lingering after the group broke up, spotlighting in particular their love of roots music with a closing suite of acoustic country, bluegrass and blues numbers.
