Pass the Jar (CD/DVD set) by The Zac Brown Band

Most live concert releases consist of a standard rehashing of a group’s greatest hits with an additional cover tune and an unreleased track thrown in to whet the appetites of devoted fans. On this double-CD/single-DVD package, Zac Brown Band covers all the standard bases during a concert at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, but also gives the fans a little extra look inside one of the group’s notoriously long jam sessions. They energetically tackle hits like “Toes” and “Highway 20 Ride,” but include unique collaborations like The Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” with Kid Rock and ZBB’s own “Colder Weather” with Little Big Town. Joey Martin of Joey + Rory pairs her fluid voice with frontman Zac’s scratchy pipes on “Free/Into the Mystic,” resulting in a pleasing silk-and-sandpaper contrast. Zac and company set a slightly higher bar with this live set, which captures rare musical moments.
