Out of the Ashes

The aptly titled Out of the Ashes is Jessi's first solo effort in over 20 years (excepting a 1996 children's album), and the first since the death of husband Waylon Jennings and the ascendancy of son Shooter Jennings to country stardom. But from the first notes of this sterling comeback, as her startlingly well-preserved voice slides into the gospel standard "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," Jessi sounds perfectly at ease. Most of the songs here are originals, centered around Jessi's own piano playing and essayed by a delightfully funky backing band including producer Don Was on bass.
