Never Regret by Craig Campbell

It’s one of the greater mysteries as to why this guy can’t seem to get the big break. Craig Campbell is a solid writer, has an uncanny knack for crafting (or finding, in some cases) catchy melodies and delivers the goods with enough personality to separate him from the general flock. Perhaps this album, Craig’s sophomore effort, will move him forward to attaining that coveted “next level” status.

Never Regret opens with two songs that might seem well-traveled territory on the surface, “Truck-N-Roll” and “Keep Them Kisses Comin’,” but Craig has the right bounce in his vocal as to make them sound original.

The record also includes the vastly underrated and underachieving single “Outta My Head,” and a poignant tear-jerker about tough times, “When Ends Don’t Meet.”

A good deal of the material does concentrate on the same topics and images (“front porch” is titled once, “That’s Why God Made a Front Porch,” and invoked a couple other times), while “Topless,” which Craig wrote with wife Mindy, is too mindful of his earlier single “Fish” in its use of double entendre.

Overall, though, Never Regret should help to signal that Craig is worthy of some greater attention.
