Cover albums can be tricky for any singer, especially when the covers range from pop hits such as the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There” to jazz standards like “My Funny Valentine.” While Thea doesn’t exactly break new ground here, she definitely does things her way. She sounds right at home on the jazzy “I’ve Got the World on a String” and on the introspective “So Far Away.” She smartly sidesteps any syrupy husband-wife duets by taking on the feisty “Hit the Road Jack” (with husband Aaron Tippin). Her voice does get overpowered during her cover of “I Can See Clearly Now,” but overall, this set showcases Thea’s vocal range and solid song choices.
