My Country Roots

For the relatively small number of people who’ll be using it for its intended purpose—building MP3 playlists of songs with similar sounds or subject matters—My Country Roots is a smart, broad, well-imagined helpmate. For the casual reader, however, it’s a collection of brief meditations both profound and pretentious (“Cheating songs are primary anxiety narratives in Country”), prefaced by a surprisingly artful introduction from George Jones.
