Mountains

Last year’s surprisingly lively Coming Home offered hope that Lonestar was ready to shake things up a little. Mountains crushes that hope with a slick collection of determinedly inoffensive songs seemingly precision-tooled for maximum radio play. If Coming Home offered glimpses of the nice-guy warmth and natural energy these guys exude onstage, this year’s model offers only stultifying studio-bound polish and predictability. It’s all perfectly pleasant, but if you’re looking for music that will actually engage your interest, you’ll find Mountains rocky terrain.
