Maybe It’s Time

*** ½

It’s About Time might be more like it. In 2003, Ashley became the youngest female ever to hit the Billboard country singles chart—she had just turned 12 when “Can You Hear Me When I Talk to You?” climbed to the bottom rungs of the Top 40. But a planned album never materialized, and a promising newcomer seemed destined to become a chart footnote. Thankfully, this way-belated debut suggests otherwise. It’s a striking collection of well-chosen tunes that show off a stunning voice and a confident singer who knows—at the still-precocious age of 15—exactly how to use it.
