The Love Songs

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Clint offers up this set of fresh re-recordings showcasing ballads spanning his career, from big hits (“When I Said I Do,” “Like the Rain”) to relative obscurities (“You Made Me Feel,” “That Something in My Life”). The new versions mostly differ little from the familiar renditions, although there are a few twists here and there—most obviously, 1997’s “Our Kind of Love” becomes a duet with Carolyn Dawn Johnson. Gathered in one place, Clint’s ballads demonstrate the same strengths as his up-tempo material: clean-cut clarity, bluesy believability and sharp songcraft.
