Love’s Funny That Way

Fans will remember Kathie as the voice of Baillie and the Boys, who racked up late-’80s and early-’90s hits like “Long Shot” and “Fool Such As I.” Her solo debut finds her still in very fine voice, essaying these 10 tracks with plenty of heart and power. Love’s Funny That Way sticks too closely to the middle of the road, and the lush sound too often obscures Kathie’s voice. But when Kathie soars, as on the haunting “All Fall Down” or a sublime version of Vince Gill’s “Never Knew Lonely” with the author singing harmony, there’s no stopping her.
