Who knew the guy with “Cowboy” inked on his forearm could kick out the jams? Ronnie Dunn’s new single, “Kiss You There,” has a hearty techno beat that wouldn’t be out of place on Luke Bryan’s or even Florida Georgia Line’s latest.

But somehow it works, sounding not like a calculated stab at a radio hit, but a genuine attempt by Ronnie to grow his artistry.

Add some whoa oh ohs, a few geographical rhymes like China and Carolina (a list of cities, states and countries that for once doesn’t sound trite) and Ronnie’s speak-sing vocals and you have the first solo release from the former Brooks & Dunner that truly establishes him as a brand-new man.
