Kickin’ Out the Footlights . . . Again

This belated sequel to the 1982 team-up A Taste of Yesterday’s Wine demonstrates the ongoing vitality of both George and Merle. Footlights includes four duets, plus solo tracks featuring each man singing his favorite songs of the other’s. Both demonstrate canny taste in covers, with Merle tucking into “The Race Is On” with vigor and George getting inside “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink.” Best of all is a knockabout duet on Duke Ellington’s “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.”
