Just a Little Lovin’

Shelby Lynne’s latest is made up of songs associated with the late pop great Dusty Springfield (plus one Shelby original), but it’s a lot more than a throwaway tribute—this is an artistic statement as valid and complete as any she’s ever made. Master producer Phil Ramone makes no attempt to replicate the full, buoyant sound of the classic versions, opting to strip the songs down to their sinewy essence. Similarly, Shelby never tries to imitate Dusty, and instead comes to each song on its own terms. Just a Little Lovin’ is a sweet, savory seduction.
