In the film Joyful Noise, Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah portray two women who try to lead a church choir to victory in a choral competition. The music-centric movie’s soundtrack is a gem for fans of the film.

On a cover of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed,” teen singer Keke Palmer’s subdued vocal provides contrast to duet partner Jeremy Jordan, who at times effortlessly overpowers with his passionate singing. Worth listening to is Queen Latifah’s “Fix Me, Jesus,” accompanied only by sparse piano backing that highlights the singer’s pure tone and soulful delivery.

Dolly, Jeremy and Kris Kristofferson offer up the romantic, country-tinged original “From Here to the Moon and Back.” The choir shines on the “Higher Medley,” which incorporates Sly and the Family Stone’s “I Want to Take You Higher,” Chris Brown’s “Forever,” Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” and Usher’s “Yeah!” and is sung in all its upbeat glory by Queen Latifah.

Though the movie has some comedic pinnacles, music is the crowning achievement of Joyful Noise.
