It’s one thing to write a gospel song whose hook is Jesus is coming, and boy, is he pissed—what really makes the title cut of The Bellamy Brothers’ first gospel album such a hoot is that they deliver it as a straight-faced somber ballad. That’s just one of the wry touches on a set that also includes the grin-inducing likes of “Lord Help Me Be the Kind of Person (My Dog Thinks I Am).” Jesus Is Coming has its serious moments, but the Brothers certainly didn’t check their sense of humor at the church door.
