Jennifer Hanson (Capitol Records)

jennifer hanson album review

If you're one of the many drawn in by Jennifer's addictive hit, "Beautiful Goodbye," you'll be delighted by the rest of this California native's self-titled debut. After "Goodbye" fades, Jennifer Hanson still has 10 more engaging, sometimes downright intoxicating slices of smart, hooky songcraft. Standouts range from the up-to-the-minute "Half A Heart Tattoo" to the old-school "Simply Yours," but best of all is "Travis," the rare song about child abuse that avoids cheap sentiment, daring to be as complex as its topic. "Travis" is a stunning surprise, and so is its creator.
