This Is It

This Is It includes Jack’s 2006 hits “Wherever You Are” and “Love You,” along with his cover of Hinder’s “Lips of an Angel”—all aimed squarely at the charts, and none written by the Texas journeyman singer/songwriter himself. But it’s Jack’s own material that shines brightest here, including a delicate acoustic lullaby to his daughter (“Ava Adele”), a tough-but-poignant heartland narrative (“Great Divide”) and a tender song about growing up and leaving home (“Make a Wish”). None has the glamour of This Is It’s hits, but don’t be surprised if they prove more rewarding in the long run.
