III

Joe Nichols
Joe's 2005 Revelation CD veered between traditionally minded material that stuited his Haggardesque voice and soggy "inspirational" ballads that, well, didn't. His third effort is a more consistent listen, reaching neither the peaks of Revelation's finest moments nor the depths of the weakest.
Unfortunately, Joe still has trouble finding new songs worthy of his wonderful voice. As a result, the highlights of III are songs almost as old as Joe is, like Steve Earle's "My Old Friend the Blues."
