Hushabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of Taylor Swift

Anyone who has been to one of her concerts or has tween-age children of the female variety knows that Taylor Swift has a knack for crafting songs that speak to younger fans—but infants? Apparently so. Hushabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of Taylor Swift is the latest in a growing list of re-imagined country music collections geared for the really young set. Past albums have featured lullaby versions of the songs of Garth Brooks, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline and other stars. While there are no vocals on the tracks—guitars, banjos and steel guitars are augmented by glockenspiel, piano and marimba, among other nursery-appropriate sounds—you’ll have no trouble picking out Taylor’s now-familiar tunes. All of her megahits are here: “Tim McGraw,” “Picture to Burn,” “Love Story,” “You Belong With Me,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” “Fearless” and a half dozen others. Bottom line: Is this something you’ll enjoy listening to endlessly? Probably not, unless you’re a fan of elevator music. Will the soothing sounds appeal to your very young children and grandchildren? Absolutely.
