Hits

Hits is only the latest example of a time-honored tradition indulged in practically since the dawn of the music business: an album of new re-recordings slyly disguised as a greatest-hits collection. Not that it really matters, as John’s fresh versions of his 1990s hits sound so much like the originals that many fans might not notice the difference. So while Hits wastes a chance to recontextualize and reinvigorate songs like “Your Love Amazes Me,” it at least offers a timely reminder that one of the previous decade’s finest singers has lost none of his vocal power or warmth.
