The Grascals & Friends: Country Classics With a Bluegrass Spin

From their recent tour with Hank Williams Jr. to releasing their second disc of ‘grass-flavored country hits (after their 2008 disc, Keep On Walking), this bluegrass outfit has slowly built a solid brand from their bluegrass-country hybrid. With their latest release, available exclusively at Cracker Barrel, they jump headlong into country classics and bring along a string of famous friends, including Darryl Worley (“White Lightning”), Joe Nichols (“Mr. Bojangles”), Brad Paisley (“Tiger by the Tail”) and others. Charlie Daniels lends his voice to his classic “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” while Dolly Parton and The Grascals’ Jamie Johnson trade beautifully reserved lines on the album’s lone original song, “I Am Strong,” which was inspired by patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Interestingly, tourmate Hank Williams Jr. didn’t guest on their version of “Born to Boogie.” They reprise “I Am Strong” with an all-star chorus including Charlie, Dolly, Joe and Randy Owen, among others.
