Get Closer by Keith Urban

Keith’s latest release is replete with his usual mix of guitar-saturated ballads and sunny up-tempo tunes. Much like his recent hits “Sweet Thing” and “Kiss a Girl,” Get Closer’s odes to puppy love sound more befitting of, say, Taylor Swift. The sugared tunes would be easy to dismiss except for the credible guitar riffs, foot-tapping rhythms and fiery passion with which Keith sings. Thankfully, it’s not all sunshine; he displays a determination to stay in a relationship after a lovers’ spat during both “Shut Out the Lights” and “Right On Back to You.” Two of the most promising tracks, “Big Promises” and “The Luxury of Knowing,” are featured on a deluxe version of the album available exclusively at Target. The former features a quirky banjo line, while “Knowing” is the album’s most stunning ballad, the tale of a devoted man accepting that his lover could choose to leave the relationship. For Keith, love reigns.
