The Fox and the Hound 2

Attention, parents: If the made-for-kids music you’re being subjected to is driving you barking mad, here’s a remedy.

The star-studded soundtrack for Disney’s direct-to-video The Fox and the Hound sequel is an unexpected treat, featuring some of country’s biggest names getting loose and playful. Reba McEntire (“Good Doggie, No Bone!”), Josh Gracin (“Hound Dude”) and Little Big Town (“We Go Together”) all sound like they’re relishing the opportunity to slip out of their usual personas and get a little silly. And when the album turns serious, as on Trisha Yearwood’s sweet, sincere “Blue Beyond,” it’s all the more striking.

The songs mingle with snatches of Joel McNeely’s fine score, which is compelling enough to keep your finger off the “skip” button—although that button is just the cure for “You Know I Will,” a formulaic anthem from High School Musical star Lucas Grabeel. For the most part, though, The Fox and the Hound 2 soundtrack will keep tails wagging long after the movie is over.
