Flicka 2 Original Soundtrack

Given the movie Flicka 2’s rural setting, one would expect the accompanying soundtrack to feature heartfelt Southern musical fare, but the album stays firmly rooted in the pop/rock world. Pop newcomer Heather Youmans contributes three tracks, including “Not Your Girl Next Door,” a catchy bit of fluff perfectly suited for a family movie. “I’m So Over You” blankets Heather’s vocal with electronic effects and a heavy backbeat. Director Michael Damian (an actor and singer known for his role on The Young and the Restless) contributes two tracks, the overly dramatic 1980s-esque “Never Forget You” and “Still Mad About You.” The only semi-country contributions are the country-pop confection “A Beautiful Day” from Flicka co-star Clint Black and Buck McCoy’s “Man of the Law,” complete with a cocky vocal and raw, Southern-rock guitar licks. On “Worth It to Me,” Trevor Alan Gililland’s cool, moody vocal overcomes the track’s production excesses. Overall, though, the disc’s sugary pop is best consumed in small doses.
