Don't I Know

A native of Ireland who moved to Nashville 18 years ago, Maura seems to be getting less Irish all the time. Certainly, her 10th solo album is Music City through and through - tunes from the cream of the city's songwriting community, recorded there with Alison Krauss Dobro player Jerry Douglas producing.

Don't I Know's carefully chosen songs address middle age and fears of death and loneliness - but usually a touch of uplift enters before things get too gloomy. It's all gorgeously sung and masterfully played, even if the earnest philosophizing sometimes gets wearying.
