“Crash My Party” by Luke Bryan

When the title of Luke’s latest single was first announced, the cries of “Oh, no!” could be heard throughout the country universe. Please, not another party song about growing up in the Deep South.

But as we found out during the Academy of Country Music Awards, where Luke premiered the tune, this one turned the tables on us. It’s actually a “thinking about you” love song. No matter where he is, the central character assures, his lover can call at a moment’s notice and he’ll drop whatever grand plans he may have.

As the payoff line concisely states, Baby, you can crash my party anytime. Which all sounds quite romantic and flattering, except that the guy does seem to hang out quite a bit by himself or with his buddies, instead of the girl that apparently has captured his heart.

I can be on the front row of the best show, and look down and see your face and I’m gone, he attests, for example.

Well, OK, if she’s that wonderful, why isn’t she there with you in the first place? This is a quandary that the song can’t effectively resolve.

That said, “Crash My Party” does contain a nice overall sentiment, and the call me, call me chorus melody especially catches your ear and stays with you. It’s an undeniable hit.
