Cole Swindell (album)

Just in time for your summer listening pleasure, newcomer Cole Swindell releases his self-titled debut. Oh, you know Cole already. He co-wrote Craig Campbell’s “Outta My Head,” Thomas Rhett’s “Get Me Some of That” and the current Florida Georgia Line/Luke Bryan collaboration “This Is How We Roll.”

Before you label him as just another Georgia boy/“bro-country” singer, however, give him a listen. Yes, there are several tracks on his album featuring über-redneck themes of beer, babes and back roads, but there’s an honesty in the production and composition that gives Cole an effortless authenticity.

Soon, you’ll be bouncing along to songs like the lighthearted and fun “Hey Y’all,” or openly giggling to the image-rich “Brought to You by Beer.” Showing the diversity of a truly gifted writer, Cole taps into a deeper, more sensitive side on songs like the crazy romantic “Swayin’” or supersweet “I Just Want You.”

Then there are tunes that just beg for summer to get here—and then last forever—like “Get Up” and debut single “Chillin’ It.”

The test will be for Cole to withstand the ever-changing climate of country music, which seems to be transitioning past the testosterone-Top 20 and moving into meatier music. But this young man has a down-home genuineness and a subtle intellect that suggest he has the necessary staying power.
