Chicago XXX

**
Why on earth is Country Weekly reviewing the latest by long-running pop group Chicago? Well, because the group’s first album of new material in 15 years was produced by Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus. Unfortunately, it’s clear from the first note here that the Chicago Jay grew up loving was not the pioneering, progressive-minded outfit of the late 1960s and early ’70s but the insufferably bland hit machine of the 1980s. The group’s justly revered horn section occasionally pops up to offer an unexpected jolt of energy, but for the most part XXX is just x-hausting.
