Burns & Poe

Burns & Poe meld the sweet vocals of Michelle Poe with the warm, raspy voice of former Trick Pony member Keith Burns. All but one of the original tracks on the duo’s debut album were co-written by either Michelle or Keith; Keith’s former Trick Pony bandmate Ira Dean has a co-writing credit on the barnburner “Gone as All Get Out.” The power of love is the subject of “Ain’t It Amazing,” which features a refreshing vocal by Michelle. On a second disc, comprised of seven duets, Keith and Michelle trade lines in the tradition of duos like Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. “Second Chance” is a conversation between two former lovers who decide to give it another shot. “It’s Always a Woman” is a striking ballad about the influence the right woman has over a man. They close out the set with a live acoustic medley of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands in the Stream,” David Frizzell and Shelly West’s “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” and Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe.”
