Corey’s sixth album, a generous 17-track project, is permeated by a sense of nostalgia for early romances and younger, wilder days. His gritty, Southern rock-influenced sound runs more toward Americana and soul than country, but it lends authenticity to wistful and rugged tunes such as “If I Could Do It Again” and “Carolina.”

He spreads a little love across every religion and ethnicity with the feel-good track “I Love Everyone.” When he isn’t reveling in extended adolescence, as on “Maybe Next Year,” he’s reminiscing about his younger years in “Twenty-one.” The song’s sleepy melody and tale of a boy who spends his teen years in college bars instead of in his schoolbooks is supremely likeable.

Corey’s uncanny ability to balance intimate, true-to-life lyrics with hooky melodies has enabled him to pack mid-size venues as a successful regional artist without the help of radio, but this set of songs displays his genuine potential to shine in the national spotlight.
