Broken Bridges

The chugging soundtrack, some sharp dialogue and vibrant turns from the supporting players keep Toby Keith’s star vehicle about a country star’s return to his hometown aloft for a while. But Bridges eventually wobbles under the weight of its soapy subplots, distracting product placement, the miscasting of Burt Reynolds and a hit-and-miss central performance from Toby, who often seems to be reciting his dialogue rather than delivering it. The real find here is Lindsey Haun as Toby’s long-lost daughter—when the crowd goes wild for her performance of “Broken” at the climax, she’s earned the ovation.
