Bring It On

If you think nobody writes ’em like they used to, lend Kevin Fowler your ear. On his fourth album, the Amarillo native and co-writers like Andy Griggs, David Lee Murphy and Trick Pony’s Ira Dean find a surprising number of fresh ways to address time-worn country topics like drinking, women, drinking, Hank Williams, drinking, honky-tonks and . . . uh, drinking. The presence of George Jones on “Me and the Boys” tempts one to wonder what a singer of the Possum’s charisma could do with some of the other gems here, but Kevin brings it on with spirit to spare.
