Another Country

To write her third album (and first in four years), alt-country songbird Tift Merritt traveled all the way to France—hence the title. But while these songs may have been conceived in an alien environment, they hold few surprises for longtime listeners. Another Country is a natural continuation of the silvery, sensual, shimmering swirl of country, rock and soul heard on the Texas-born singer’s lovely first two efforts. Highlights include the striking “Morning Is My Destination,” as well as the closing “Mille Tendresses”, sung in French—the only moment on the album that gives away its well-traveled pedigree.
