Mark's unexpected smash with the singalong crowdpleaser "19 Somethin' " has left him in a sort of limbo - caught between friskier, faster fare like that smash and the emotional ballads that made him a star in the first place. A nice problem to have, perhaps, but a problem nonetheless.

Crowd positions itself carefully between those poles, but too much of Mark's own personality goes by the wayside in the radio-pleasing balancing act. Some of the tunes do manage to rise above and challenge this terrific singer -- especially the dramatic "What Hurts the Most," which he delivers with superb conviction.
