Act of Valor: The Album

Several of Nashville’s stars offered up songs for the Navy SEAL action flick Act of Valor.

The Keith Urban-penned “For You” is featured in the film—playing over the closing credits—but the album is comprised of many performances equally worthy of screen time. Musically, “For You” is characteristic Keith Urban fare—memorable melodies, lightning-quick guitar work and Keith’s grainy vocals; Lyrically, it’s one of his most introspective efforts of late.

Sugarland’s Kristian Bush gets a rare lead vocal on “Guide You Home.” Unfortunately, the duo’s usually seamless harmonies sound unbalanced and occasionally overpowered by instrumentals, which doesn’t aid this cliché-filled tune.

Trace Adkins gives one of the album’s most arresting performances on the evocative “If the Sun Comes Up,” while Josh Kelley provides the solid, folk-tinged “The Best of Me.” Wynonna sidesteps her usual full-throttle vocals for a subdued, rootsy delivery on “What Brings You Back.”

It’s a cohesive musical chronicling of the determination, sacrifice and courage embodied by one of the most respected special operations forces.
